What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Visit

Your first chiropractic visit is about getting to know you and developing a comprehensive understanding of your health concerns, goals, and current condition. At Form & Function Chiropractic, we take time during your initial appointment to perform thorough evaluation and explain everything in clear, understandable language. Most patients find their first visit informative, comfortable, and hopeful.

Before Your Appointment

Gather your insurance card, photo ID, and any relevant medical records or previous imaging (X-rays, MRIs). If you have existing medical conditions or take medications, bring that information. We provide patient intake forms online or in our office that help us understand your complete health picture.

The Consultation

We’ll discuss your symptoms, health history, how your condition affects your daily life, and your goals for treatment. Dr. Devine will ask detailed questions to understand your condition’s onset, what makes it better or worse, and how it impacts work, family, and recreation.

Physical Examination

Dr. Devine performs comprehensive physical and orthopedic testing to identify the cause of your symptoms. This may include range-of, motion testing, strength testing, palpation of your spine and related structures, and specialized orthopedic tests. He’ll explain what he’s finding as he goes, so you understand the examination process.

Diagnostic Imaging

If indicated, we may recommend X, rays or other imaging to visualize your spinal structure and identify misalignments or other abnormalities. Imaging helps us develop more accurate diagnoses and targeted treatment plans.

Findings and Treatment Plan Discussion

Dr. Devine will explain his findings using clear language and show you your images if imaging was done. He’ll discuss his diagnosis, explain how your condition developed, and recommend a specific treatment plan including frequency of visits and expected timeline to improvement. You’ll have opportunities to ask questions and discuss your concerns.
